One of the downsides of the growth of social media is that people are a lot less “social” than they used to be, spending more time online with “friends” instead of actually socially engaging in the real world, an opportunity being addressed by Cape Town start-up, Get Sponty.
Richard Hartley, CEO of Get Sponty tells Appsafrica.com how the Get Sponty mobile app is re-connecting people to spend real face to face time with friends and family to do social activities. The app is attempting to get people off the phone, be more spontaneous in the real world. Ultimately this app is doing what social media set out to do – make people connect and be social, however many now are glued to screens rather than meeting physical faces.
Get Sponty lets you organize get-togethers with your phone address book – you create the event, invite your contacts and they choose to accept or decline. The Get Sponty app is currently available in Google Play store (for Android) and on the Apple App Store too.
