The AppsAfrica.com Innovation Awards celebrate African tech ventures driving change, solving problems and impacting the lives of Africans across the continent. We take a look at five African tech ventures nominated for the Changing Africa Award at this years AppsAfrica.com Innovation Awards.

Flutterwave (Nigeria)

Flutterwave have made it easier for Africans to build global businesses that can make and accept any payment, anywhere from across Africa and around the world.

Founded in 2016 by a team of ex-bankers, entrepreneurs and engineers, they provide the award-winning technology core needed to provide business all around the world a powerful, reliable and intelligent payments gateway.

BRCK for MOJA (Kenya)

The Moja Platform was conceived by BRCK to provide a financially profitable model for delivering free and ubiquitous connectivity to consumers in Africa.

The Moja platform addresses two major problems in a novel way: the access and affordability of the internet. Without widespread adoption, middle and lower-income African consumers are not actively using financial, e-government, and other valuable digital services on a regular basis. Moja provides these users with access to the greatest knowledge repository at no cost.

Pargo (South Africa)

Pargo is a smart logistics platform that is addressing Africa’s $25B last-mile distribution challenge through a tech-enabled network of parcel pickup points. Pargo allows consumers, companies and couriers to send and receive parcels at thousands of pickup points, conveniently located in retail and convenience stores and thus creating accessible, affordable and reliable delivery for 1B+ Africans.

The platform has different logistics providers (couriers, 3PL, line-haul, customs) integrated to offer various delivery services to companies. The pickup points all work on Pargo devices that make the different services available to them.

With over 2500 stores and a pickup point in every town and suburb in Southern Africa, Pargo ensures that businesses have access to a much bigger group of consumers.

 PesaKit (Kenya)

PesaKit is a Last Mile Agent Network Platform Providing Digital and Human Interactions to Accelerate Financial Inclusion. PesaKit harnesses the power of cutting-edge technology, including artificial intelligence, combining it with human intelligence, a synergy that facilitates accuracy and consistency in delivering digital financial services to the underbanked in Africa.

At the last mile of finance distribution, PesaKit offers agents an AI virtual assistant (chatbot) to enable them to offer financial services, manage liquidity, increase profitability and serve more customers. The assistant educates the agents on financial services and management, helps agents to manage and control their operations, forecasts liquidity needs, inventory and commissions creates a credit score and offers agents on-demand liquidity loans.

Snapplify (South Africa)

Snapplify is at the forefront of edtech solutions in Africa, and specialises in enabling digital learning for individuals and institutions by establishing a marketplace for digital education content, related educational services, and devices. Snapplify for Education refers to a suite of products for digital reading and e-learning that are transforming classrooms by empowering teachers and students to teach and learn, digitally.

Snapplify platforms have been developed in an emerging market context, for the emerging market classroom and they have taken care to ensure that our offering is world-class, but appropriate and relevant for use in classrooms across Africa. To date, Snapplify has built the largest catalogue of local and international e-textbooks in Africa.
