28 housemates entered the house from 14 African countries seeking to win the 300,000 USD on offer. Shown 24/7 on DStv (Africa’s satellite TV network) the audience can follow the action online and from their mobiles via Facebook, Twitter, SMS update and the BBA website (as well as the RSS feeds on biNu). The public can also vote by SMS on their phone, on the mobile or the desktop site in these emerging markets.
biNu asked their community a few questions via a survey platform about how they get updates, how they vote and of course who they think will win! The majority of respondents were male, 56% were aged between 18-24 years old and just over half got their updates from their mobile phones.
Just over 6,000 users across Africa completed the survey in just a few days. There has been a few controversies this year with one contestant, Nando, being disqualified for threatening another housemate. Interestingly though, just over 50% were happy that he was booted off.
