The KaiStore for Smart Feature Phones Is Coming to Africa

A new type of mobile device is coming to Africa: the smart feature phone powered by KaiOS and KaiStore, ideal for people who don’t have a smartphone but need and want more than a basic handset with only voice and texting capabilities.

In addition to Wi-Fi, 3G/4G/LTE, Bluetooth, and GPS, KaiOS facilitates access to the KaiStore, which features some of the world’s most popular apps such as Facebook, Twitter, The Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Search and YouTube.

Devices with KaiOS will soon be in the hands of millions of new users across the African continent and, in addition to the global apps already on the KaiStore, we want to ensure there’s a selection of compelling local content. As a developer, you can provide your apps for free through the KaiStore, or generate revenue through app sales, subscriptions, and advertising options provided by our KaiAds solution.

As  KaiOS prepare for the launch in Africa, they want to get in touch with both established and up-and-coming developers across the continent. The KaiOS mobile operating system is based on HTML5 and supports open web standards like JavaScript and CSS. This means it’s easy to adapt apps created for other platforms or to develop new content from scratch. KaiOS already powers 50 million devices across the world, and was named the Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough at MWC’s Asia Mobile Awards this year.
