SUMMARY:Tech In Ghana Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Tech In Ghana Conference (TIGC) London provides a platform for unparalleled insight\, networking\, business and investment opportunities for technology leaders in Ghana and the UK. \nIts 3rd offering\, the annual event will showcase innovation\, share knowledge and connect 200+ key tech entrepreneurs. \nTech In Ghana was launched in 2015 to boost the global understanding of Ghana’s tech ecosystem\, nurture relationships among Ghana’s tech professionals and build a network with the UK-based\, Africa-focused tech and investment community. \nWhen it comes to countries pioneering technological innovation in Africa\, Ghana is surprisingly not yet considered an influential tech ecosystem. The Tech In Ghana Conference is therefore aimed at drawing attention to the country’s budding tech potential. \nBy bringing together companies and initiatives from Ghana and connecting them with international ventures\, investors and entrepreneurs who are truly focused on business and investment in Ghana and Africa\, there are huge opportunities for this ecosystem to blossom. \nMore info and tickets: https://techinghanaconference.com/

SUMMARY:What do the SDGs mean for business in Africa?
DESCRIPTION:A discussion and networking drinks brought to you by The Royal African Society\, Dalberg Group and The Africa Club at London Business School. \nTickets available here: https://bit.ly/SDGsAfricaBiz \nDiscussion of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is widespread\, across the media\, within development institutions\, boardrooms and beyond. There is\, in particular a growing recognition that the private sector will have an important role to play in achieving the targets underlying the SDGs\, both due to the scale of funding required and the increasingly shared view that businesses and private investors have the ability and responsibility to make a difference. \nBut in many respects\, none of this is new. What is different now? What do we really mean when we say that the SDGs create new opportunities for businesses and investors? What are the most forward leaning companies and investors doing\, and what is working? \nThis event aims to bring together business executives\, investors\, social entrepreneurs and development actors to pierce the veil on the SDGs\, go beyond broad-based discussions and start a dialogue about key questions that face investors and businesses with current or potential interests in Africa. \n\nHow are the SDGs relevant to businesses and investors today and how do we expect them to change the way we need to operate in Africa going forwards?\nWhat new opportunities and markets can be opened up by taking an ‘SDG lens’?\nHow do we need to change the way we operate to make these opportunities a reality? What are the risks? What are firms and funds doing and what is working so far?\n\nSPEAKERS  \nWelcome remarks: Boko Inyundo\, Business Development\, DLA Piper\, and Council Member\, Royal African Society \nKeynote Speeches: \nLord Mark Malloch-Brown\, Former United Nations Deputy Secretary-General & Chairman of Smartmatic \nNick O’Donohoe\, Chief Executive Officer\, CDC Group \nTwo panels of business leaders and investors include: \nDougie Brew\, Director External Affairs\, Communications & Sustainability for Africa\, Unilever \nDavid Croft\, Global Sustainability Director\, Diageo \nH.E. Dr Hailemichael Aberra Afework PhD\, Ethiopian Ambassador in the UK \nKate Robertson\, Co-Founder One Young World & Former CEO of Havas \nYemi Babington-Ashaye\, Former Head of Africa\, World Economic Forum \nJean-Paul Melaga\, Co-founder & CEO of Smartphorce \nAly-Khan Jamal\, Partner\, Dalberg \nGeetha Tharmaratnam\, Partner\, T5 Africa Capital Partners \nKarima Ola\, Partner\, LeapFrog Investments \nTracey Austin\, Global Head\, Impact Investments\, Palladium \nShami Nissan\, Head of Responsible Investment\, Actis \nOlivia Iloetonma\, Investment Associate\, Dalberg Capital

SUMMARY:Disruptive Technology In Africa
DESCRIPTION:With a growing number of Africans coming online\, the continent’s digital economy is on the rise\, with new\ninnovative disruptive technologies being offered\, altering the way people live and work and leading to\nentirely new products and services. The increase consumption of technology in Africa is creating\nopportunities for organisations to expand into Africa\, such as Uber which has recently launched its platform\nin Dar es Salaam and Jumia which has launched its platforms across key markets on the continent.\nOver the last fifteen years Africa has leapfrogged existing technologies. The widespread use of m-money\nservices like M-Pesa in many countries has developed in places where bank accounts are only held by a\nminority of the population. The coming together of cheap smartphones\, ever cheaper data and new online\ncontent and services opens up a significant number of new opportunities for international companies and\ninvestors.\nDisruptive technologies are shaping the landscape of the financial services sector on the continent with\ntechnologies such as the Pebble\, a device used to accept card payments via mobile phones and the mpayment\nservice Paga in Nigeria\, allowing the unbanked population to gain access to financial services.\nThis event\, hosted by the BCA Technology working group and will be an opportunity to hear from keynote\nspeaker Jason Njoku\, Founder and CEO of iROKO\, who has pioneered the African digital content market\nby bringing Nollywood (Nigerian cinema) to a global audience. iROKO has aggregated the world’s largest\nonline Nollywood content catalogue and is one of Africa’s largest internet TV providers.
