SUMMARY:DISCOP ABIDJAN
DESCRIPTION:Launched in 2015\, the Abidjan market specifically targets Sub-Saharan African countries where French is spoken as a first or second language. 576 delegates and 58 exhibitors representing 302 companies from 41 countries attended the 2018 edition. \nWith a fast-growing population of 115 million french speaking individuals\, Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa boasts 20 million TV households and 7 million pay-tv subscribers. Ever-increasing year-on-year attendance shows the true extent of growth potential in this ensemble of neighboring countries where French is spoken as a first or second language. \nThis part of the world is a predominantly free TV marketplace challenged by rapidly growing pay TV and digital terrestrial television services\, cutting-edge internet users consuming video content online\, and the huge rise in mobile phone penetration. Across these countries and excluding sports rights\, public and commercial broadcasters\, premium cable channels\, cable and satellite operators\, telecoms\, and mobile and streaming platforms have spent around $150 Million to buy content in 2018 – a 50% increase since the beginning of the decade – and generated close to $750 Million in direct pay-tv / advertising revenues. \n  \nNext edition is scheduled from 29 to 31 May. Morocco will be the Guest Country. \n

SUMMARY:Disruptive Technology In Africa
DESCRIPTION:With a growing number of Africans coming online\, the continent’s digital economy is on the rise\, with new\ninnovative disruptive technologies being offered\, altering the way people live and work and leading to\nentirely new products and services. The increase consumption of technology in Africa is creating\nopportunities for organisations to expand into Africa\, such as Uber which has recently launched its platform\nin Dar es Salaam and Jumia which has launched its platforms across key markets on the continent.\nOver the last fifteen years Africa has leapfrogged existing technologies. The widespread use of m-money\nservices like M-Pesa in many countries has developed in places where bank accounts are only held by a\nminority of the population. The coming together of cheap smartphones\, ever cheaper data and new online\ncontent and services opens up a significant number of new opportunities for international companies and\ninvestors.\nDisruptive technologies are shaping the landscape of the financial services sector on the continent with\ntechnologies such as the Pebble\, a device used to accept card payments via mobile phones and the mpayment\nservice Paga in Nigeria\, allowing the unbanked population to gain access to financial services.\nThis event\, hosted by the BCA Technology working group and will be an opportunity to hear from keynote\nspeaker Jason Njoku\, Founder and CEO of iROKO\, who has pioneered the African digital content market\nby bringing Nollywood (Nigerian cinema) to a global audience. iROKO has aggregated the world’s largest\nonline Nollywood content catalogue and is one of Africa’s largest internet TV providers.
