Africa Tech Summit Nairobi Announces GIZ as its Gold Sponsor

Africa Tech Summit (ATS) is thrilled to announce the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ GmbH) as a gold sponsor of its sixth edition taking place on February 14th and 15th, 2024 at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi.

As a leading global organization promoting sustainable economic development, the GIZ partnership with Africa Tech Summit marks a significant milestone in facilitating knowledge sharing among entrepreneurs and creating opportunities for collaborations, investments, and partnerships.

GIZ’s Scaling Digital Agriculture Innovations through Startups (SAIS) project, implemented on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is committed to promoting digital agricultural innovation in Africa. The annual Investment Readiness Programme (IRP) aims to support innovative African AgTech and FoodTech startups in the growth phase to raise capital and scale up their businesses. To date, nearly 70 startups from over 20 countries have raised $37m in funding, showcasing the impact of the program. GIZ will present 20+ SAIS portfolio startups at the Africa Tech Summit.

Speaking about the partnership, Michel Bernhardt, Head of Programme, GIZ stated “We are delighted to be part of the Africa Tech Summit in with the SAIS portfolio start-ups! We look forward to inspiring conversations and networking opportunities with innovators and investors on how to take African agriculture to the next level.”

This year we decided to link our annual start-up event, the “SAIStival”, with the Africa Tech Summit. The days prior to the Africa Tech Summit, we will bring our portfolio start-ups together in Nairobi for peer-learning and pitch-training, so that we are fully ready to make the most out of the ATS.”

SAIS will host a session on Africa’s Rising Agritech Startups: Feeding the Continent Through Venture Innovation. The session will explore the innovative solutions that are transforming the agricultural sector and contributing to food security in Africa.

Commenting on the partnership, Andrew Fassnidge, Founder of Africa Tech Summit expressed: “We are delighted to welcome back GIZ to ATS in Nairobi, following on from an excellent GIZ showcase at Africa Tech Summit London. GIZ’s commitment to driving digital innovation and fostering collaboration between startups and investors aligns perfectly with the ethos of ATS, and we look forward to working together to unlock further opportunities across the African tech ecosystem.”
